About
ELISABETH SUNDAY
Artist and Fine Art Photographer
Photography is my chosen art form and I've been making images for over forty years. I am best known for my "Field Mirror Photography," a term I coined to describe my work that uses a two lens system with mirrors out in the field.
My interests center around photographing the world's first people who are indigenous to the land and have an intimate and mystical knowledge of nature. Mirror Photography teases the invisible world out from behind the physical one and produces a mythopoetic, visionary type image that reveals who we are in spirit, as well as in the flesh.
During the year and a half of lockdown/release here in France, I photographed a single subject that was literally rooted in Nature right in my own backyard. The Grandmother Tree--whose expression changed across the four seasons--became my ballast and source material for a creative inquiry into the dynamics of Nature and the character of a botanical subject.
The resulting body of work is a 32 print portfolio made up of four, 8 print subsets that correspond with each of the four seasons.
The Grandmother Tree Portfolio is available as a series of 32 prints.
Photographs are also available as individual prints.
